Geely is a prominent automobile manufacturer based in Hangzhou, China, founded in 1986 initially as a refrigerator maker. It transitioned into the automotive sector by producing motorcycles in the mid-1990s and began manufacturing automobiles in 2002. Operating under the Geely Auto brand, the company also holds a 50% stake in the LYNK & CO brand. Geely employs over 50,000 people and runs 12 production plants, distributing vehicles through a network of more than 1,000 dealerships in China and approximately 350 overseas outlets. The company has made significant acquisitions, including the purchase of Volvo Cars in 2010 and a controlling stake in Lotus Cars in 2017, which have bolstered its global presence. In 2018, Geely achieved record sales of over 1.5 million units, reflecting a 20.3% increase from the previous year. Geely continues to expand its international footprint, with plans to enter markets in the United Kingdom and Italy, while also investing in innovative technologies such as flying cars through its acquisition of Terrafugia.
