The Engine

The Engine is an incubator and venture platform founded by MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, launched in 2016. It provides startups with space, streamlined legalities, access to lab space and equipment, and connects to patient capital from investors who share a long-term vision. The Engine offers business planning guidance, enabling startups to move from concept to market quickly. It supports up to 60 locally based startups concurrently through a 12-month accelerator, taking less equity than typical programs to help founders retain control. It connects to MIT resources via the Engine Room, providing resources and expertise. It targets Tough Tech areas such as artificial intelligence, climate and energy, autonomous systems, robotics, biotech and life sciences, and advanced manufacturing, combining science, engineering, and leadership to accelerate path to market and impact.
