The Catchbox got started in 2012 at Aalto University, Finland. After seeing countless lectures and conferences where it was difficult to ask audience members questions, the founders decided something had to be done. Product developers at heart, the team set about to create the world’s first throwable microphone that could be easily passed from one audience member to the next, making events more engaging and fun. To develop the product, the company went through countless iterations, testing early prototypes at over 100 events, including large conferences and lectures. After seeing which features, technologies, and form factors worked the best, the final design was finally chosen. Early customers include Evernote, Ohjelmisto Yrittäjät, SEFE, and Nordic Business Forum. Keksintösäätiö, Aalto Design Factory, Startup Sauna, and Aalto University all played an instrumental role in the creation of the product, providing support and a workplace for student-driven innovations.

Even if found, fewer than 50% of pets with microchips are returned to their owners. Their pets are members of the family. With Pip, they have worked hard to raise the bar in terms of quality, comfort, and ease of use. They look forward to bringing Pip into your family and helping make the world a safer place for their pets.

EnerLeap

Grant in 2013
EnerLeap is a patented, new lithium ion battery technology. In today's lithium ion batteries, the powder binders break down quickly, stunt performance and jeopardize safety. EnerLeap replaces these inefficient binders with a rigid 2D titanium silicide nanonet. The result is a lighter weight, faster charging, longer lasting and safer battery. We have lab scale prototypes and are currently planning to enter the $12B global lithium ion market through the consumer electronic space.

Clean Energy Innovations

Grant in 2010
Clean Energy Innovations develops and markets a proprietary process capable of delivering an increase of at least 25% in the energy extracted from a battery during one discharge cycle. The CEI process promises to be a critical factor in the growth of rechargeable batteries which is expected to be a $50 billion market by 2015. Despite large R & D investment in the industry, the rate of performance improvement is relatively slow. Dramatic improvements in cost, performance, or weight of rechargeable batteries will add high value to the end products where they are used. The CEI reproducible laboratory test results of its patent pending process, IPS™ (Interfacial Process Stimulation), demonstrate its claims for significant performance improvements in both Nickel Metal Hydride and Lithium Ion batteries. The process will work with any type of rechargeable battery. The IPS™ process can be readily integrated into existing control systems, by adding a simple low cost logic component into the battery power management modules. This means there is a minimal amount of incremental development and incremental bill-of-material cost. This is a disruptive technology which brings immediate performance results that match the more costly industry developments underway in battery chemistries and controls. Through the implementation of software-driven advances in the operating system of the battery, IPS™ achieves clear improvements, but is also compatible and synergistic with these R & D efforts. Key is that CEI’s process has been shown to be far more cost effective - it achieves the same results with a lower investment by at least four orders of magnitude. CEI seeks partnership arrangements with market leaders where IPS™ will be a major driver to advances within important industry sectors such as mobile devices, electric vehicles and storage for renewable energy installations. CEI has a passion for solutions that support the major global objectives for environmental health and security, energy independence, and economic growth. CEI believes that IPS™ will have a major impact on these important objectives.
