The American Heart Association is the oldest and largest voluntary organization in the United States focused on combating cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Established in 1924 by a group of six cardiologists, the organization has grown to encompass over 22.5 million volunteers and supporters dedicated to eradicating these health issues. The American Heart Association engages in funding innovative research, advocating for robust public health policies, and providing essential tools and information to enhance and save lives. With a presence across the nation, it operates 144 local offices and employs nearly 2,700 staff members. In 1975, the organization relocated its national headquarters from New York to Dallas for a more central location. In 1997, it created the American Stroke Association as a division to consolidate its stroke-related initiatives.
