Commonwealth of Learning is a non-profit intergovernmental organization dedicated to promoting and developing open learning and distance education. It is the only intergovernmental body focused solely on these areas, assisting developing nations in enhancing access to quality education and training. Governed by an international Board of Governors, the organization includes representatives from major contributors such as Canada, India, New Zealand, Nigeria, South Africa, and the United Kingdom, alongside representatives from all four Commonwealth regions: Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. Commonwealth of Learning employs approximately 45 staff members at its headquarters in Burnaby, Canada, and the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia in New Delhi, India. The organization reflects the cultural diversity of the Commonwealth, with senior staff recruited from various member states. Established in 1988 by Commonwealth Heads of Government, Commonwealth of Learning is hosted by the Government of Canada.
