Most of those raw nuts are shipped to South and Southeast Asia, which have a more extensive processing infrastructure. Kona is part of a wave of new cashew processing firms in West Africa that aim to bring that economic benefit to the local level. It has an installed processing capacity of 1,000 MT; however, currently the company utilizes less than 25% of its capacity due to working capital constraints. Provided with the correct financing and operating at full capacity, the facility can source from at least 1,000 farmers and employ approximately 300 predominantly female employees.
